Moroccan authorities have expelled from the Western Sahara a Spanish citizen, Carlos González Parito, and it’s believed he was a special envoy for the president of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, as reported today by the Assabah newspaper.

This individual arrived on a schedule flight from the Canary Islands to El Aaiun and presented himself as an engineer interested in the architecture of the Sahara.  Nevertheless, while under surveillance, the police observed him filming interviews with POLISARIO sympathizers.

According to the newspaper, the police confiscated more than 10 hours of footage, and while under interrogation, he said to be “a direct envoy of Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, to the Sahara, to prepare a report and that he’s true profession was journalist.

Assabah adds that, “this individual was indeed born in Venezuela, even though he carries a Spanish passport”.  Last Sunday, he left the Western Sahara for the Canary Islands.

It must be noted that Venezuela maintains a policy of unconditional support for the POLISARIO Front, and president Hugo Chávez has become a great defender of the Sahrawis in Latin America.
